As I am starting this new blog with my chosen niche, “Making Money Online”, I realize I have a lot of tough competition. I knew it when I decided on this niche and I am of reminded of it now as I am trying to get it off the ground. I am reminded by others over and over that I likely will not succeed in this blog niche because the competition is just too high. Guess what? I’m keeping this niche and my goal is to succeed.

I’ve always been one of those individual’s that try harder when someone says I can’t. Call it hard headed or just plain determined. I like a good challenge and I definitely have one ahead of me with this blog on how to make money online.
When it comes to writing your blog. I do think it’s important and wise to research your topic and your competition, but let the final decision of what you write about be up to you. Don’t let the other hundred blogs (or more in most cases) in your same niche scare you away from writing what you want to write about. Here is why I feel so strongly about that.
1. There might be hundreds of other blogs in your niche but not all of them are successful and many copy from other blogs and do not have original content or ideas. If there is not a huge value for a blog, they will not be a successful blog and therefor are not competition. Not everybody with your same idea is competition, not even close.
2. You are your own person with your own mind, ideas and thoughts. If you look at your blog niche and research other blogs in that niche, you will see that there is something that you can add to the niche that someone hasn’t or at least not the way that you might be able to do. If you look close enough, there is always a problem to be solved and a unique way to solve it. You’ve got something in you that someone needs and can benefit from. Get it out there for others to see. I don’t care how many blogs are writing about the same thing. Do what you are passionate about regardless of competition.
3. Believe in yourself and your ideas for your blog/business. Even if everyone is saying, it won’t succeed, you won’t make it, it will be too hard. Laugh in their faces and keep going forward. That’s what real champions do. Don’t be phased by the naysayers. Instead, be your own cheerleader and tell yourself that you can do it and you will succeed. Sometimes we are our only source of encouragement, but don’t let that stop you.
So, I hope that if you felt discouraged about going forward in your business, you feel more encouraged and inspired now. I also have created an A-Z list of blog niche ideas as well as examples of blogs that are successful in each niche. Don’t feel like you are copying by looking at your competition. It’s so important and valuable to be able to learn and get ideas from others. Just remember to keep whatever you do original.
I ranc across this article from IFB (The Independant Fashion Bloggers) that talks about “How to identify, grow and find success with your blog niche“. In the article, she points out that “you should have so much passion for your niche, that you get a thrill when you talk about it with someone else …” and I totally agree. Your niche topic should be something you are excited, knowledgeable and as Gretchen points out, passionate about.
To your true success,
Don’t be bullied out of your blog niche,
